Maxwelltown Works, Dundee

IAS has prepared a landscape design for Maxwelltown Works, a new residential development located on the site of a former engineering works at Alexander Street, Hilltown, Dundee. The residential complex, constructed by Culross Ltd in cooperation with Caledonia Housing Association with architecture designed by JM Architects, will include a mix of four-storey flats and three-storey terraced houses and will contain 57 homes. The majority of these units will contain 1 and 2 bedroom flats as well as 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes, planned to be rented or for affordable homeownership.

The landscape design will regenerate the area by providing green areas and residents’ spaces, located on various levels of the steeply-sloping site; it will reconnect Hilltown Park with a new residential area on Dens Road and Alexander Street, to the south from the new site. Construction work is planned to start on the site in early 2019 with the new homes completed by 2020.
Baltic Mill, Arbroath

Baltic Mill is a A-listed former linen weaving factory located in central Arbroath, a historical stone building constructed in 1852 that served also as a whisky warehouse before it was vacated in 1990s, and was left disused for the following two decades. In 2014 a planning permission was granted to convert the Baltic Mill into a residential building housing 24 affordable flats. The project was managed by Cullross Developents, received funding from Angus Council and from the Scottish Government. After completion of works the building will be managed by Hillcrest Housing Association.

IAS Landscape Management & Design prepared landscape design for the development, including green areas, pedestrian accessible routes and residents’ utility spaces located in the courtyard.
